Propositions bets are an extreme on the spectrum of craps bets. As such, they take a lot of heat from some people, and get touted as the best thing since sliced bread by others. The truth is everyone is right, this is not a bet that compromises and as such is only good for some players while being terrible for others. How do you know which category you fall in? Keep reading to find out.
Proposition bets can offer payouts of up to 30 to 1 but the house edge can be over twenty times as severe as the safest bets on the table. A such the riskiest players at a table will go against all odds in hope of the big payout. If your one of these players, don't let anyone talk down to you for the risky bets. Everyone plays differently. You just need to be careful that you are only betting what you are sure you can afford to lose, because the odds say you will do just that.
If you find yourself churning out pass line and odds bets to keep your odds favorable, you won't do well with proposition bets. Your methodical style will completely with the huge sporadic wins and losses that the proposition bet has to offer. Not only will you probably lose big, but you won't even enjoy yourself throughout the process. Definitely not what you're looking for.

The Beauty of Odds Bets
Odds bets have a unique quality among them that puts them apart from all the other bets in a casino. Even combined with the obligatory pass line bets, they can offer nearly fair odds. We're talking a house edge of .61%, and that's conservative. If a casino allows odds up to 100x (rare, I know, but it does happen) you're looking at .02% or what professionals compare to a coin toss. Odds bets pay fair odds and only have ANY house edge due to the 1.41% house edge that comes along as baggage with your pass line bet. I'm definitely going to be putting this knowledge to use the next time i hit the tables.

Come-Out Of The Closet
There is a lot that happens in any given craps game, but the come-out roll is by far the most important roll of the game. It can serve several purposes including...
Ending the round: If the shooter rolls a 2, a 3, or a 12 get he should be ready pass the dice because the round is officially over, and the players who placed bets on the pass line lose their wagers, while the don't pass line bettors win. If the shooter rolls a 7, or an 11 the pass line bets win and the don't pass line loses.
Setting the point: If the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 then that number is set as the point and the round continues.
